The Music Writer’s Lab returns to Brisbane for its third year at BIGSOUND from September 3 - 6.

For 2024, the project sees four emerging writers brought to Brisbane for a series of workshop sessions and dedicated mentorship by some of the country’s best music and culture writers.

Drawn from a strong pool of applications from writers based nationwide, the following writers have been selected to participate in The Music Writer’s Lab this September.

Representing different music tastes, writing experiences and approaches to their craft, The Music Writer’s Lab is proud to be working with Jack Latimore, Adele Luamanuvae, Owen Morawitz and Tyler Jenke as mentors this year.

  • Jack Latimore

    Jack Latimore was the Aboriginal Affairs journalist for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers.

    He also has a sketchy past involving some music journalism. He is a Birpai-Thungutti guri.

  • Adele Luamanuvae

    Adele 'Del' Luamanuvae is a Samoan/Maori-Australian music writer based in Western Sydney.

    She has worked with Acclaim Magazine, Junkee, and most recently, appointed as the last music reporter for VICE Australia.

  • Owen Morawitz

    Owen Morawitz is a freelance writer and independent scholar with a focus on alternative music, film, culture, and media.

    He is the co-host of The Pitch Of Discontent podcast, while his work has featured in Bandcamp, The Line of Best Fit, SPIN, BrooklynVegan, Exclaim! and more.

  • Tyler Jenke

    Tyler Jenke is a Melbourne-based freelance music journalist, podcast host, musician, and lecturer at the Box Hill Institute, who previously served as Editor of Rolling Stone Australia from 2019 to 2022.
